The table compares three different purposes of learning English among Chinese residents in 2018. We can see from the table that the vast majority of college students learn English for the purpose of taking tests or international study, at 65%, while most staff aged between 20 and 40 years old for better career development, representing 60%. In contrast, as much as 90% of workers aged 40+ see English as part of their hobbies.
According to the available information, reasons for these differences can be summarized as follows. Firstly, it is known to all that college students of today are having to face up to various kinds of English tests. Therefore, learning English has been placed at the top of their to-do list. Undoubtedly, these tests will force them to enhance their English level, and prepare them for further education and working in an international company. Besides, one’s English level plays a part in his/her career development, especially today when we are under the influence of globalization, those who can speak English are more likely to be valued by the boss.
Overall, I personally suggest that no matter what purposes the English learners are seeking, mastering English language skills will bring everyone a bright future and better life.

The pie chart gives information about how individuals commute to work in a city. At 40% we can see that the bus takes the lion’s share. Next come the subway and the private car, which constitutes 30% and 25% respectively, while the bicycle falls far behind, merely at 5%.
According to the available information, reasons for these differences can be summarized as follows. Firstly, people of today have increased their environmental awareness. As a result, taking the bus or the subway has gained great popularity. Undoubtedly, this trend makes a significant contribution to emission reduction. Secondly, those who live in mega cities are having to face up to growing traffic flows during rush hours. In view of this, many of them are reluctant to drive private vehicles for fear that they might get stuck in traffic jams. In contrast, taking the bus or the subway ensures they can arrive at workplace on time, especially today when the distance of the bus lane and subway line are longer and longer.
Overall, I personally agree that commuters need to be encouraged to see the public transport as their first option. I also believe that an increasing number of people would like to do so in coming years.
